The Domestic State Machine #2   2001
4 synched DVDs, carpet, custom maple stand
84" x 48" x 60".

In this installation, the second version of the piece, each monitor presents a different point of view of furniture chaotically smashing around a room. The furniture is under the control of a physics model which simulates the room being shaken as though it were a die in a craps game.

The monitors correspond to point of view: north, south, east, and west. The videos are synched such that the furniture is in the exact same point of flight on each monitor, but from these different points of view. There are eleven different simulations, each between 10-20 seconds. The custom maple stand is exactly 1/5 scale of the simulated room. This version also includes a low-volume, ambient "machine room" soundtrack.

An alternate single-channel DVD presents all 4 points of view simultaneously.
